Strategies to improve public awareness of Food Safety and civil society engagement

Thanks to the FSOLab 4 co-creation work, we have new resources and approaches to effectively inform civil society about food safety and the risk assessment process, such as:

• TikTok videos as a form of “edutainment” (combining education and entertainment
• Comics as a form of “edutainment” (combining education and entertainment)
• Educational materials to support food safety teaching
• communication campaigns for the large public.

How to improve risk communication?

Food4Future_cz is a communication campaign developed in the context of the FSOLab4. The campaign aims to raise youngsters’ awareness about food safety and sustainability for a conscious and considerate approach to the environment. The campaign was designed within FoodSafety4EU using the “Social Lab” method in 2021 and 2022 engaging multiple project partners from industry, academia, authorities, and consumer associations in the co-creation process. Food Safety Glossary

An updated set of cards explaining the main topics or most used words in the food safety domain is available in different languages for educational and communication purposes in the EU FOOD SAFETY PLATFORM Knowledge Center.

Do you know how to run an interactive workshop with students?

In FoodSafety4EU a multi-stakeholder group of experts co-designed a new format for interacting with students.
The workshop was organized by UGENT addressing university students and facilitated by a young researcher. Discover our guides and formats here!

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) transitions from the #EUChooseSafeFood campaign to the #Safe2EatEU initiative, providing deeper insights into the EU’s rigorous food safety regulations. When consumers make food choices—whether based on cost, quality, origin, or taste—there is one constant they can rely on: the safety of their food. The EU’s robust food safety framework ensures that all food products meet stringent safety standards.

With the #Safe2EatEU campaign, EFSA reinforces its dedication to protecting public health. Consumers can enjoy their meals with the assurance that food safety remains EFSA’s highest priority.
Explore the EU’s unwavering commitment to food safety through the #Safe2EatEU Toolkit: it provides country-specific resources – press materials, visuals (see below), social media posts, etc – on selected food safety, food hygiene, and health and nutrition topics.
