Train4Blue engagement and participatory process

The TRAIN4BLUE project addresses the blue economy in the Greek and Italian regions belonging to the Interreg Greece-Italy Programme area. In these territories, the blue economy sector (including maritime transport, fisheries, seafood, coastal tourism, shipbuilding, etc.) is growing. It is providing opportunities linked to the sustainable blue growth and the EU Blue Economy and Green Deal agendas, while facing with still not aligned skills and youth employment rates, which remain remain above the EU average.
TRAIN4BLUE creates a shared cross-border framework for blue skills development and employability, by promoting systemic cooperation across the blue economy ecosystem. Through a multi-actor participatory process, partners will map blue economy sector and training needs, co-design actions with local stakeholders, and test four pilot actions in different regions.

EU Food Safety Platform supports the lead beneficiary and the project consortium partners, by exploiting and leveraging its participatory process and stakeholder engagement methodology, its experience in multi-actor collaboration, by involving different actors in the blue economy sector in Apulia region, mainly addressing research and innovation framework.

Mapping Blue Economy needs in Apulia Region

The platform has completed the Map Analysis on Training Needs, Competences and Knowledge in the Blue Economy in the Apulia Region by combining stakeholder mapping, desk analysis, questionnaires, and data analysis to build a shared evidence base for future knowledge and training design.

The survey reached 106 respondents across key target groups, including the general public, enterprises, policy makers, and academic and research actors. The results highlight a strong demand for technical-maritime, green, and digital skills, as well as a preference for short, practical, and flexible learning formats.

The results of this survey will support the next project phase, including the co-design of training pathways and actions aimed at better aligning skills provision with labour market needs in the Blue Economy.
