The European Union is moving forward a new legislative package aimed at simplifying food and feed safety rules while maintaining the EU’s high standards for the protection of human and animal health and the environment. The initiative is part of the European Commission’s broader simplification agenda outlined in the Vision for Agriculture and Food.

The proposed Food and Feed Safety Simplification Package aims to reduce administrative burdens for food and feed operators, farmers, and public authorities, while improving the efficiency of regulatory procedures. Key measures include streamlined authorization and renewal processes for feed additives, pesticides and biocides, strengthened controls on imported products, digitalization of certain procedures, and simplified reporting requirements.

According to the European Commission, the package aims to create a more efficient and innovation-friendly regulatory framework while ensuring that food and feed safety, consumer protection, and environmental safeguards remain fully protected.
The legislative proposals are currently being examined by the European Parliament and the Council as part of the EU legislative process. Once adopted, they are expected to contribute to a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable European agri-food sector.
