EU FOOD SAFETY PLATFORM supporting the #Safe2eatEU campaign

In response to the invitation from the Italian Ministry of Health, the EU FOOD SAFETY PLATFORM proudly supports the 2025 edition of the 5th Safe2Eat campaign, coordinated by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority).

This EU-wide awareness initiative is designed to empower consumers with science-based information about food safety and healthy dietary choices. By making the science behind food more accessible, the campaign helps citizens make informed, responsible decisions.

Focus of the 2025 Campaign

This year, the spotlight is on:

Foodborne outbreaks linked to foods of non-animal origin (FNAO), such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, and sprouts.

Food additives, with a focus on how they are scientifically evaluated and regulated to ensure consumer safety.

A Growing European Movement

The 2024 campaign reached over 50 million citizens across Europe. In 2025, the initiative has expanded further with 23 participating countries, including 4 new entries compared to last year, demonstrating the growing relevance and commitment of EU Member States to promote a transparent and safe food culture.

The Safe2Eat campaign continues to raise awareness about the science behind food safety and aims to build trust in the EU food system.

Materials, infographics, and expert insights are being shared across EFSA’s channels and local institutions.

The EU FOOD SAFETY PLATFORM is supporting this action by sharing the key messages on its social channels and website (Knowledge Center link to resources) among its 35 members and the network of 80+ international partners.

The platform is promoting the campaign in ITALY in synergy with one of its active supporting partners: the EFSA Focal point set up at the Directorate General of Collegial Bodies for the Protection of Health (ex DGOCTS) of the Ministry of Health, while in Portugal it counts on the collaboration of another partner, ASAE, Food Safety Authority.
