EC: Shaping the future of food research and innovation
Insights and recommendations from Food 2030 Experts

The European Commission – Research and Innovation unit – has released a comprehensive new report prepared by a panel of independent experts, evaluating the impact and structure of its flagship Food 2030 initiative. This expert assessment examines the current framework, analyzes its underlying rationale, and provides detailed recommendations for designing and implementing a future initiative that will enhance and build upon the existing model.
The report offers the Commission critical insights to support the ongoing evaluation of Food 2030 and to guide the development of its next phase. Following the Food 2030 Pathways for Action structure, the ten-member expert panel has identified key gaps and synergies in EU research and innovation projects and policy on food systems. The FoodSafety4EU project is included in this study. The analysis also explores how the initiative can be reinforced and better aligned with the European Commission’s new political priorities.
